Electric Football

By Erik Arneson, About.com

The Basics:

Electric Football was originally published in 1949 by Tudor as Tudor's Tru-Action Electric Football. No designer was credited.

Why Electric Football is Part of the Games Timeline:

It's believed that Electric Football is the first widely available game to incorporate electricity.

Here are the other games I believe are the most culturally and historically significant games published since 1800.

More About Electric Football:

Miniature plastic or metal players are placed on the field, and then the electricity is turned on. The board vibrates, causing the players to move. The original games offered little control of the players' movements, but by 1971 manufacturers started developing effective control systems. Tudor's competitors in the Electric Football market included Coleco, Gotham and Munro. Today, Miggle Toys continues to manufacture Electric Football games.
